The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Lung Health was founded in 2002 with the aim of conducting clinical and translational pneumological research at the Pulmonary Competence Centre at the Clinic Penzing in Vienna. The institute is part of the Austrian Ludwig Boltzmann Association and is headed by Prof. Marie-Kathrin Breyer, PhD. The research team consists of medical experts who are supported by numerous staff members at two different study centres. Since its foundation, the Institute has conducted a wide range of research programs in the fields of lung development, chronic lung diseases (and their comorbidity) and pneumological oncology.
