He supports the LEAD Study’s heart domain as senior researcher in these projects.

In 2016 he was appointed Full Professor for Pneumology at Sigmund Freud University Vienna.

He supervises medical students at Sigmund Freud University Vienna in the preparation of their master’s and diploma theses.

In 2002 he initiated the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Lung Health and he is a founding member of the Austrian LEAD Study.

From 2002 to 2021 he was the Director of the LBI for Lung Health.

From 2000 to 2019 he was head of the I. Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine at Clinic Penzing, Vienna.

He served as President of the Austrian Society of Pneumology between 2007 and 2009.

In 2009 he was local president of the annual congress of the European Respiratory Society (ERS) in Vienna.
