Congratulations

We are delighted that two Master’s students from the Sigmund Freud Private University of Vienna have once again successfully completed their Master’s thesis with data from the Vienna Health Study LEAD and passed the defence!

In her study, Mariana Radu-Piuk showed the distribution of fat mass and appendicular lean mass within the BMI categories and their relationship to allostatic load as a marker of multisystem dysregulation. These results emphasise the need to include body composition in the assessment of the health status of the general population.

Erwin Medjedovic shows in his master’s thesis that obesity is a chronic burden on the body even in children and adolescents. Fat mass as the main factor causing obesity and appendicular lean mass are associated with an increased allostatic load. The differentiation of body compartments offers added value compared to conventional BMI measurement, from which more precise interventions can be derived that can be used at an early stage to prevent future diseases.
